Disfellowshipped in Absentia
by HereIgo ini have heard of this happening before, but how often?
its pretty rare it seems.
i have often wondered if the elders would go this route with me since they knew i was actively sinning, but as far as i know, no jc was ever formed.

I was reinstated and a few months later the elders called me to the KH one evening because they had found what they called "disturbing information" online to do with my past that I hadn't told them about. I was interrogated for 2 hours. After that I stopped going to meetings as I was in shock with their aggressive behaviour towards me. I stood up for myself and they remarked on my bad attiitude. they then wanted to make a J.C. case out of it which I did not turn up for. The place I live in is difficult to find, but a JW window cleaner told them where I was. They turned up on the doorstep and informed me I was disfellowhipped for reasons that were wrong. I did not appeal I didn't think it was worth it. That was over a year ago. :-( x -

An honest question for those who were "born-in"
by stuckinarut2 injust wanted to ask a question of those who were born in as i was.. how did you feel to have been "privileged to have been born into the only true faith - the truth"?.
did this make you feel confident, or proud - or perhaps arrogant?.
how did you reconcile the fact that 99% of the earth's population was not born "into the truth"?.

I did not feel privileged to be a "born in" I was ridiculed at school for being different, I was not a "JW robot" as a few other children were in the congregation as I could not connect with it or develop a relationship with a God I could not see. I asked too many questions from a young age and was looked on as troublesome from then on. The last straw for me was being swept off my feet at 14 years of age by an extremely handsome 17 year old brother. My parents took me to his local convention so that we could surprise him only to find him holding another sister's hand and looking embarrassed. After that an elder in my congregation made advances to me when I was 16 years of age and when I exposed him for it, my parents blamed me for getting this lovely elder into trouble. When I had to see the J.C over this matter I asked to be DF. I had had enough. I never considered being "born in" to be special, it was more a curse. As a child in your most impressionable years you are indoctrinated to be a certain way and this stays with you for life no matter what choices you make in the future. :-/ x

PROPAGANDA—HOW DANGEROUS IS IT?
What is propaganda? In this context, it is the use of biased or misleading information to manipulate the way people think and act. Some equate propaganda with “lies, distortion, deceit, manipulation, mind control, [and] psychological warfare” and associate it with “unethical, harmful, and unfair tactics.”—Propaganda and Persuasion.
How dangerous is propaganda? It is insidious—like an invisible, odorless, poisonous gas—and it seeps into our consciousness. Because we may not see propaganda for what it is, behavior specialist Vance Packard observed: “Many of us are being influenced and manipulated—far more than we realize.” Under its influence, says one scholar, men and women have been “quite easily led into the most preposterously dangerous behaviour”—such as ‘genocide, war, racist hysteria, religious intolerance and many other forms of irrational behaviour.’—Easily Led—A History of Propaganda."
Of course the JWs know what Propaganda is, they are subject to all these things in their teachings, no wonder the GB are worried about them receiving it from somewhere else as they have already shown themselves to be susceptible!!!!!! >:-(

Born Ins, How Did Your Parents Get "The Truth™"?
by pale.emperor inborn ins are in a unique position in that we never knew any other way of life.
no birthdays, christmas and overly superstitious family just seemed normal.
when my parents talked about their pre-jw life it seemed like they were talking about completely different people (actually, that's true, the cult had taken their real selves).. so i'd be interested in hearing how your parents were indoctrinated.. my dad.

I had a severely autistic brother who was violent to my mother and she couldn't cope. He went into a residential home at the young age of 6. This was devastating for them and soon after this someone called on my mother and had answers for all her questions along with the promise that one day my brother would be well. After that she and my Dad were converted just before I was born. How fortunate for me! :-/ x

CounselIling for Ex Cult Members
by Disassociated Lady 2 ini wanted to ask those of you who were born into the jws and eventually left as an adult, whether any of you have had any counselling?
i know from experience that being programmed by a cult since birth does not give us the social skills and knowledge to function and interact with people in the outside world as we were taught to avoid it.
those of you that have had counselling, do you feel that it has helped you?

To Pale Emporer " So far i've noticed that those who still feel tied to it or guilty etc are those who still have some belief in the WT teachings."
This is not about still believing their teachings, it is more about the social skills that we were not taught and the biggest problem is JWs are taught to trust no one in the world which can be a huge problem.
When negative people out there in the big wide world discover you were raised as a JW they can also use it against you because they know you lack knowledge of the world and how communities work as we were not allowed to integrate into them.
